Introduction to the city |
Once a hippy abode, today Kovalam is known for its picture perfect tropical beach, traditional fishing villages providing fresh fish, fruits and the famous toddy (coconut beer). Around 16 kms from Trivandrum, Kovalam was brought to the public eye by the Maharaja of Travancore. The Kovalam beach -also known as the "Paradise of the South" has developed well over the past three decades and now figures prominently on the world tourism map. This tiny beach draws thousands of tourists from across the world for a refreshing Indian Experience. |

The Darpakulangara Palace, which is now called the Padmanabhapuram palace, contains the relics of historical and artistic value. With a fine collection of Kerala's bronzes, ornaments, contumes, and a model of "Tharawad'-the traditional Nair family home, the Napier museum is a must visit. |
